US History Essay Topics: All Possible Topics are Already Composed
When it comes to history, and especially history essays, you can guarantee someone has already talked about it before. Everything that has happened has been talked, discussed and written about at length. Your awesome-sounding title on the Californian Goldrush? There’s a book about it. That essay you want to do on Pearl Harbour? There’s an in-depth documentary on it. So don’t worry about what essay topic you choose, because chances are your teacher has already read it a thousand and one times. Instead, follow these handy tips for picking your topic.
- Pick the One for You
- Don’t Be Generic
- Don’t Panic

- Don’t Panic
Because everything has already been done you don’t need to worry about pandering to your teacher. Just find a topic that you like, on a subject that interests you or an area you want to explore further. Make your essay a learning exercise for you, not a way to impress anybody else. The elites have heard it all before, but you haven’t. So find something that strikes your fancy and get writing on it.
Your teacher has read everything already, sure, but that is not an excuse to be boring. All that means is if you are trying to set out to impress someone, you have to try extra hard. Although everything has been discuss, there are ways to mash up the conversations to create something new. Find a way to approach a topic that makes you different in some way. Ask a new question or find a new answer. Whatever it is, make sure you stand out.
The thing about history is there’s so much of it to do. Every second gives us a second more of history. When it comes to picking your topic, you can often look at the large swathes of history to choose from and freak out. But don’t panic. You can use this broadness to your advantage. You can always take an idea and hone in on it. For example, if you’re looking at the Goldrush, you can investigate a certain town or a certain miner. Or even just stay broad and talk about the general time and events. That’s the beauty of history. If you want to talk in great scope, you can. If you want to go microscopic, you can. It’s entirely up to. So don’t be afraid, it’s all be done before and you can’t go far wrong if you stick to the facts.
